Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

Ever since Porsche decided to join the growing SUV segment of today's market, the Cayenne has outdriven all of its competitors. The introduction of this line brought us the Cayenne S and the Cayenne Turbo, with the entry level Cayenne joining in not long after. For 2006, Porsche unwraps the Cayenne Turbo S, a new leader of the pack. With a simple S-designation on the tailgate, one would never expect such mammoth differences.

After fine tuning and tweaking of the engine and turbocharger components, Porsche managed to squeeze even more juice out of its massive V8. The numbers are impressive, with a 16 percent boost in horsepower over the already-potent Cayenne Turbo. The new model gets pulled by 520 horses at a reachable 5500 rpm, and the torque comes into play at 2750 rpm providing a brag-worthy 530 lb-ft. From a standstill, the Turbo S can reach 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds! (For those of you unfamiliar with these numbers, this 5200-lb tank can basically keep up with a BMW M3(!!), the high-performance variant of the popular 3-series.) These numbers are unheard of in mid-sized SUVs until recent years when Mercedes decided to reward its popular ML with an AMG steroid boost. Then, of course, came BMW thundering past Mercedes with its X5 because, well, that's what BMWs do. The Cayenne was a first-timer, but we all know that when Porsche steps into the picture, their philosophy and engineering/design are unparalleled, even by other members of its own class.

Visually, the Turbo S does not change much, but anyone who knows a thing or two about Cayennes will probably be able to distinguish it after closer observation. The quad tailpipes from the regular Turbo are now welded together into four ovals, two on each side with the inner two overlapping the outer two. This is reminiscent of Tequipment, Porsche's line of accessories originally available only for the 911. Another clue to give away the 520-hp beast is the standard 20-inch SportTechno rims wrapped in high-performance tires.

With a base price of $111,600, you must either be out of your mind or really have to get to soccer practice/the mall pronto. But then again, if your pockets are really that deep, you could always just slap on 24 inch spinners and pimp it up... and actually go fast, too.

Cayenne hmmm, you should do a review on the new Audi RS4, BMW M5, Mercedes-Benz E55/C55 man those would be awesome
dude the cayenne weights almost 3 tons... thats so fuckin unnecessary... a porsche SUV should be lightweight so it can be an all around performer not just a straight-line rocket (imagine what those 520 hourses would do if this thing weighed 500 lbs less)
hopefully porsche will do a better job with the next generation (though no one can argue with the insane amount of sales/profits this things generating)
and what is this... you write car reviews now? haha

Wass- thanks for reading!! But let me justify the Cayenne. Yes, it is REALLY heavy, but as a 4wd SUV, it has already outdone all of its competitors. Its main opponents are the Mercedes ML55 AMG and the BMW X5 4.8is. The Benz does 0.74g on the skidpad while the BMW smokes it with 0.84g. The Porsche, however, pulls up to 0.87g. It is the best handling SUV on the planet. To put things into even more perspective, a stock BMW M3 coupe runs a 0.90g lateral acceleration. When the Porsche--a 3-ton truck--is 0.13g's better than a car from its own class and a mere 0.03g's away from the high-performance BMW M3, that really says something about its handling. With more power than an M3, nearly identical acceleration figures to an M3, and handling characteristics slightly less than an M3, I can assure you it will be a close race. The Cayenne Turbo S doesn't run with the other SUVs, anymore, it truly is in its own "supercar/truck" class, if you will. So just to answer your concern, the Cayenne is definitely an all-around performer way above SUV standards, not to mention its 0-60 time that is identical to a stock 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera. :-)
